“Drink-o-meter” paying off
Mexico City’s program Conduce sin Alcohol (Drive without alcohol) has reduced fatal accidents related to alcohol consumption by 70%. Unfortunately the enforcement of this project by the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública is sometimes done under stress and duress, where sometimes police officer conduct the measuring procedures while being harassed verbally and sometimes physically. Despite the bad public reception the program saves lives by removing those who are driving under the influence of alcohol. Since its creation in 2003 the program has reduced alcohol related fatal accidents by 70%.
